A new band with original repetoire and a stellar line-up of Dutch jazz-musicians. The title of their first album refers to a very important inspiration for The Very Next where soul and jazz originated. They’ve taken this inspiration to write a very fresh and up-to-date collection of songs that proves the band has come a long way from New Orleans indeed. With a rocksteady rhythm section, a lot of horns and a great leadsinger this is a 10 piece groove outfit that isn’t afraid of soul, pop or jazz and throws it all in the blender to create a soulstirring experience!
“It was sheer joy to make an album with a group of musicians who say ‘no’ to compromising. We aspired to reach the optimum result by doing what we thought was best, through a process of jamming, writing, arranging and rehearsing. It was only until we knew we were ready that we booked the studio. After two years, the moment had come, and “Studio 150” became a reality. We aimed for the usage of real instruments which – together with Paul’s voice – we strived to make sound as genuine as possible. With this remarkable formation of players it would have been a shame not to capture their unique sound and unique way of playing in the best possible way. We are proud to present ‘10.000 miles from New Orleans‘. It’s a true representation of who we are: The Very Next.”
